You’re waiting for your fairy godmother to magicalize you into Stephen King…
… and other reasons why you haven’t finished your novel.
You’re waiting for your fairy godmother to magicalize you into Stephen King…
… and other reasons why you haven’t finished your novel.
You’re not sitting down to write, because the fear of it not being “perfect” or what your friends will think of you is keeping you stuck.
You’re wasting weeks, months, years of your life stuck burning in the fiery pit of Revision Hell.
You’re overwhelmed by all your plot, character, and setting ideas, and you have no clue what darlings you need to murder.
(Writing is murder. Is that a t-shirt?)
You’ve gone to every [Insert Big National Genre Conference] for the past 5 summers, and bought all the latest craft books on how to plot a novel — but you want to take your novel further faster and not leave an unfinished draft in your Last Will & Testament for your heirs to finish.
You sit at your computer, staring at the screen wondering if it’s worth writing the next page, or if this book is even worth working on anymore, and maybe you should just light it on fire and throw it in the trash because who cares?
(Secret: Every pro has been there. Some visit regularly no matter how many books they’ve written, awards they’ve won, or fans they have.)
AHEM. THAT'S ME!
I’ve studied with great story craft mentors including Lisa Cron (Wired for Story, Story Genius), Donald Maass (Emotional Craft of Fiction, Writing the Breakout Novel), John Truby (The Anatomy of Story), and Christopher Vogler (Memo from the Story Department, The Writer’s Journey).
I’ve been personally trained and certified in book coaching by Jennie Nash, founder and CEO of Author Accelerator.
I’ve worked alongside book agents and editors. This work gives me a backstage view of how the book world works. I’ve swum in the deep dark depths of the slush pile. And believe me when I tell you, it’s not pretty.
She asks just the right questions.
When presenting her with a problem or concern with my writing, she really has a knack for pointing out what needs work, what might be missing, without ever dictating the "right" way to fix it.
She's wonderful at helping you find the answers you didn't even know you were looking for and pulling out the areas that can really make your story evolve.

I DO THIS WORK BECAUSE I LOVE IT
My business is built on a love of stories.
Nothing fires me up more than working with writers.
At the end of the day, there's nothing else I'd rather do.
My passion can help you bring to life the kick-ass book inside you.
You'll get your book finished with a whole lot of focused strategy, consistent
butt-kicking accountability, and an extra dose of your own high octane passion.
Too much to ask?
Not at all.
There’s a few ways I can help you make it happen.
Jocelyn spent several months coaching me on a manuscript revision.
I can honestly say that her feedback was the best I've received. She has a keen eye for details and a sixth sense about what will deepen a character and make them more emotionally impactful.

Quick:
What do Dorothy and Alice have in common?
They’re badass women having epic unforgettable adventures. And I wanted to be them growing up.
I’m a story nerd. I’ve been obsessed with story as long as I can remember. My superpower is to see the scrolling green code behind a story. Like in the movie the Matrix. I’m a Story Neo.
I spent two decades on the hunt for a story-centric lifestyle. I’ve been a website developer, a technical writer, a graphic designer, a wedding florist, and for several ridiculous months an urban farmer.
But I kept coming up dissatisfied.
In 2010, that meant a developmental life revision. I started pursuing a side gig helping writers, working in the book industry, and hustling to learn everything I could about writing books.
Today, I’ve found the story-centric life I’ve always craved. I help ambitious writers get their books written and ready for publishing. And I live with three criminal mastermind cats plotting to take over the multiverse.
Books are life. If I wound up stranded on a deserted island, the ONE book I’d take with me would be The Stand. No. Daughter of Smoke and Bone. No. Not that. Oh! Snowcrash! Or ... Beloved …. The Poisonwood Bible … AAAAH! Damnit! I can’t just choose one book! What a stupid question to ask someone.

Stories get us through difficult times.
Stories show us who we think we are and who we want to be.
Stories change us and through us, they change the world.
